In Leadership and Self-Deception, the author says that many problems that occur in organisations are due to self-deception. That is, it is the tendency of people to justify themselves endlessly even when they know that they are on the wrong path that causes troubles in various organisations. Having found the cause, the author then goes on to explain how people can come out of such a mind-set. For showing people the way out of self-deception, the book has been divided into three convenient sections namely, Self Deception and the Box, How We Get in the Box and Getting Out of the Box is How We Get Out of the Box. The first section describes how one person sees others as objects and the cause of problems and thinks of them as less important individuals. This creates an atmosphere of discontent that in turn pushes individuals and everyone else around them to get into their boxes. This is a subject that is discussed at length in the second section of the book. The last section then looks at how people can get out of this box by focussing more on their fears, ambitions and desires rather than by objectifying them. What makes this book a pleasurable read is the fact that all the principles of self-deception and leadership have been presented in a story format. The storyline revolves around Tom who has been wronged by his boss at Zagrum Corp, a company that he has recently joined. While Tom feels that things are going down for him, little does he realise that he has also contributed to his own downslide. It is only a leadership training session that brings Tom out of this mind-set. Leadership and Self-Deception was published by Manjul as first edition in the year 2014. It is available in paperback in Marathi. Read more
